CRU Update: Shannon's August Prayer Letter

Though we had to evacuate Charleston during a crucial time in the semester, when things were just getting started on campus, we have already seen the Lord work mightily on our campuses and we are trusting His plan for our ministry this year. There are 2,091 freshmen in CofC’s class of 2023 and it is our hope that every one of them has an opportunity to say “yes” to Christ.

One of my teammates had the opportunity to share the gospel with a student from Maine who did not know anything about Jesus, having not grown up in an area with many churches, but her interest was peaked when she stopped by our table and filled out a spiritual interest survey.

After hearing the gospel, Daisy placed her faith in Christ and has been devouring Scripture to learn more! I am praying for more students like Daisy this year! God is clearly on the move, drawing students to Himself and I am so encouraged by it.

As I have followed up with interested students, I’ve had multiple opportunities to share about the ministry of the Holy Spirit using a tool called Satisfied. This booklet shares how we can be filled with the Spirit and empowered to be bold witnesses for Christ. It’s been sweet of the Lord to answer my prayer from this summer about sharing the Satisfied tool and talking to students more about the Holy Spirit and the vital role He plays in our relationship with God.

Until every student hears,

PRAYER REQUESTS

  • Students to know Christ and make Him known on their campus and around the world.
  • Pray for those who have been affected by Hurricane Dorian. Check out GAiN, the humanitarian relief arm of Cru, if you are looking for ways to help.
  • Praise the Lord for two new believers! Daisy at CofC and Alex at the Citadel! Pray the gospel would be deeply rooted in their hearts and they would begin growing in their love for Jesus and sharing Him with others.
  • Lowcountry Cru Beach Retreat Sept 20th-22nd. We are trusting the Lord for 70+ students from our 4 campuses to join us in North Myrtle Beach for a weekend of community and biblical teaching and lots of fun on the beach. Due to the hurricane, we have lost about a week of having conversations with students about joining us for the retreat, but we know God is faithful and will provide students He wants there.
  • My personal walk with the Lord that I would walk in the power of the Holy Spirit moment by moment and grow in my knowledge and love for the Lord.

The Lord has increased the laborers for His harvest in Charleston!

I am so grateful for this team of Cru staff, interns and volunteers.

We are expectant of what the Lord will do this year!

After the first Cru weekly meeting of the semester,

we walked over to a new ice cream place near campus, Off Track Ice Cream,

to get to know some freshmen and build community.
